Motivation and Demotivation
Motivation is the driving force in our lives.
To motivate mean to encourage and inspire.
It comes from a desire to succeed, whether in personal life, work, relationships or other areas.
Motivation can be external or internal
External motivation comes form outside the individual, for example, need for money, societal approval, fame or fear.
Internal motivation comes from within, for example, a sense of inner gratification, achievement, responsibility.
The main fuel that drives motivation is belief and expectation.
And what we believe is mostly shaped by what our thoughts that have been shaped by our experiences, values, habits.
If we believe that we are worthy, we are valued, we have contribution to make, and if what we do will make a real difference, we will be motivated to act accordingly.
If the event or situation is so critical that everything depended on what we do at that moment or otherwise, and if we didn't do it the situation would be extremely disastrous or critical, we will also be extremely motivated.
If we knew for certain that cannot fail, we will act as if we cannot fail and perform.
On the other hand, if have had negative experiences and that whatever we do doesn't make a difference, or that we are not appreciated whatever we do, we will also adjust our actions accordingly.
Enemies of motivation can come in various forms-
Low self esteem, lack of direction, lack of priorities, lack of measurable objectives, negative self talk, unfair treatment, low standards leading to low performance, negative or unfair criticism.
In order to reverse these, we need to - see the big picture, have a vision, value ourselves, set achievable goals, learn and know that they can be achieved with certainty.
Affirmations and positive self talk stated in the present tense and repeated regularly help to keep the goal and the end result in mind.
Fill your love tanks.
Keep the vision of the end goal in mind.
Change the course of your habitual thoughts and actions.
Jump start it by visualization, creation, belief, positive affirmations, action plans and action.
It will spiral into positive cycle of success, which breeds further success.
