Follow your heart

Are we living for ourselves or for what others want?
The following poem by Louis Simpson drives home a message.
Follow your heart.
He married a respectable woman
who played the piano.
She played well enough
to have been a professional
Ed's wife left him…
Years later, at a family gathering
Ed got drunk and made a fool of himself
He said, " I should have married Doreen"
"Well, " they said, " why didn't you?"
Ask yourself, Am I following my heart, or living for what others want?
It's a thin line between following whims and fancies and what that still small voice is saying.
Listen to your heart.
Develop the sensitivity to distinguish your true voice from the rest.
Take a moment each day to slow down and be still.
Listen. And do nothing else.
It is good to be able to develop this faculty.
So that when the moment is right, you know that moment is for you.
