Goal setting is important, but the fundamentals need to be settled first. Unexamined goals are dangerous, as was mentioned in the previous post.
"Why was I not told, that in my brain I hold, in one tiny ivory cell, both God's heaven and God's hell?" Oscar Wilde
Voices are crying, pulling in many directions. Almost magnetically, we are drawn toward those goals which seem attractive, and promise us things we think we want. That new car, that girlfriend, that promotion, that image of yourself that makes others think you are smart, cool, slick and popular, wanted.
Goal setting is powerful. It can get you to where you want to go. Most success formulas suggest that you formulate your goals in order to get where you want to be. They ask you to dream of that dream car, house, boat, lifestyle. They tell you to ask yourself what you want then set your goals in order to get what you want. But it seems there is something missing. All the goal setting software and plans will not work if the goals are unexamined, in the larger context.
"Everything you do, is triggered by the emotion of either desire or fear." Brian Tracy.
"I don't know what finally triggered it, but recently I realized it is time for me to have a total life make over. Well, perhaps not total; but at least 75%. There are some things that are best just left alone…….I have struggled with weight since I was a child. Along with that I've had some self-esteem issues. I never seemed to fit in. As I grew older I tried very hard to find my place in the world. Often too hard. Disappointment was not met with good results. Determination grew into desperation..I was a teen mother and a high school drop out.
Visualize and Create. Visualize and actualize. Whatever we can visualize, can actualize.
The Law of Attraction has brought to the forefront an awareness that we are in fact the creators of our own destiny, not just logs or twigs tossed in the waves and flowing with the tide.
Our thoughts and feelings can be used to determine our reality, both in a good and in a bad way. Movies like "The Secret" bring to the fore of mass consciousness with examples of how it has worked in people's lives.
What we say and do does have an impact on our lives. The Law of Attraction, simply put, says that "whatever you put your focused intention on, you will attract to your reality".
Burnout – whether it be from job, work or by being a caregiver to someone, or being a work and home mom- is common among most of us. In fact, more common than we think it is.
The definition of burnout according to the Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is "exhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration." Burnout can creep upon insidiously. One day you may wake up and find yourself not feeling like going to work anymore. There is no joy, no excitement, no anticipation. If it happens long enough, it may lead to a state of negative attitude and self concept towards work and life.
Signs of burnout are common and here are some signs that may indicate that you may be suffering from job, career or carer burnout. You may find yourself identifying with one or more of the following symptoms of burnout.
Self sabotage is often unobtrusive, and self sabotaging behaviors can be disguised in multiple ways. Most of the time, we do not realize that we are sabotaging ourselves, until we stop and think.
Do you find yourself struggling to achieve results but not really succeeding?
Have you ever told yourself that you are doing to make it and succeed, but in spite of telling yourself this, you don't finish what you intended to do?
Do you find yourself constantly struggling?
Do you feel that people are constantly criticizing you?
Do you put yourself down at every opportunity?
Or you've finally met someone who is right for you, but somehow you tend to make it go wrong. On examining further, you realize that deep down in side, you didn't believe you deserve this person . It has happened again with your relationships.
Have you experienced the feeling- you are doing more, running faster, accomplishing much, but you feel there is something missing
You may be writing the best goals of the year, and getting the top prize for accomplishing all the goals you set out to do. You may be accomplishing all that you set out to achieve, but at the end you are still unhappy.
