Goal setting is important, but the fundamentals need to be settled first. Unexamined goals are dangerous, as was mentioned in the previous post.
"Why was I not told, that in my brain I hold, in one tiny ivory cell, both God's heaven and God's hell?" Oscar Wilde
Voices are crying, pulling in many directions. Almost magnetically, we are drawn toward those goals which seem attractive, and promise us things we think we want. That new car, that girlfriend, that promotion, that image of yourself that makes others think you are smart, cool, slick and popular, wanted.
Goal setting is powerful. It can get you to where you want to go. Most success formulas suggest that you formulate your goals in order to get where you want to be. They ask you to dream of that dream car, house, boat, lifestyle. They tell you to ask yourself what you want then set your goals in order to get what you want. But it seems there is something missing. All the goal setting software and plans will not work if the goals are unexamined, in the larger context.
"Everything you do, is triggered by the emotion of either desire or fear." Brian Tracy.
Here are 15 principles for getting from where you are to getting to where you want to be.
1.Change your thinking.
" You are a living magnet. What you attract into your life is in harmony with your dominant thoughts" Brian Tracy
2.Take Responsibility.
" All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him, it will not change you." Wayne Dyer
In life we have either excuses or results. We take responsibility or blame others. Like the life lesson when you have fallen into the manhole. You'll never get out unless you take responsibility. Excuses are mere cop outs. The phrase "I'll try" is cop out. Either do or you don't. There should not be waffling, shifting, blame,or justification.
The world is replete with examples of people who refuse to accept cop outs or excuses. Here are some examples of people who have faced their problems head on, with true grip, and emerged triumphant.
Roger Crawford was born with one leg and two arms but no hands. But this did not stop him from playing tennis.
"I don't know what finally triggered it, but recently I realized it is time for me to have a total life make over. Well, perhaps not total; but at least 75%. There are some things that are best just left alone…….I have struggled with weight since I was a child. Along with that I've had some self-esteem issues. I never seemed to fit in. As I grew older I tried very hard to find my place in the world. Often too hard. Disappointment was not met with good results. Determination grew into desperation..I was a teen mother and a high school drop out.
"If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face.
And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until it gets so ugly you can hardly bear to look at it
Do you abuse yourself? Often, abuse is spoken of as harming someone else. But have we considered self abuse? The industrial age is over. No longer does a good job or a college education guarantee you your income, the meal on your dinner table forever. Raising financial IQ is no longer a option that can be exercised. It is a necessity.
In Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump's recent book on Why We Want You to be Rich- they state 10 reasons why this world is facing serious financial problems.
